A bank manager was arrested by MHB Colony police in connection with cheating an elderly widow of Rs 76 lakh. The FIR also accuses the manager’s wife, brother and parents. They have been issued a notice by the police.
Mumbai: A bank manager was arrested by MHB Colony police in connection with cheating an elderly widow of Rs 76 lakh. The 85-year-old complainant lives alone in Borivali after losing her husband to cancer. In 2021, the accused visited her home and helped her frequently to pay utility bills through her phone. The complainant had kept Rs 76.5 lakh in her bank account which the accused transferred to his own account without her knowledge between 2021 and 2023.
The complainant said she was not aware of which email address was linked with her bank account. The FIR also accuses the manager’s wife, brother and parents. They have been issued a notice by the police. Her son is based abroad. She had an account with a bank in Dahisar and had visited it for completing her KYC when called by the manager (the accused). He encouraged her to invest in stocks through him and his wife, but she refused. The accused and his wife encouraged her to opt for options trading.
