Pune: Residents of Ravet endured a power outage lasting over 30 hours from early Sunday, with the disruption affecting water supply, work-from-home professionals and office-goers. Electricity supply was restored around 10.15am on Monday, according to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd ( MSEDCL ).

In a statement, MSEDCL said an underground 22 kV, 95 sq mm cable supplying a 200 kVA transformer at Signet Park in the Bhondwe area developed a fault on Sunday morning. Power supply was restored at 10.15am on Monday. The disruption affected around 170 residential and commercial consumers dependent on the transformer. Earlier this year, parts of the locality experienced an outage lasting nearly 72 hours after rain-related faults.

Office-goers also faced difficulties reaching their workplaces on time on Monday due to the delayed restoration of supply. Ravet has reported repeated and prolonged power cuts, raising concerns about the reliability of electricity supply in the rapidly growing residential area. Vilas Badkar, a resident of SB Patil Road, said his house remained without power for most of Sunday. “Repeated complaints to MSEDCL through various platforms went unanswered and its helpline numbers were also unreachable,” he said. Prajakta Rudrawar, chairperson of the Ravet-Kiwale-Mamurdi Housing Society Federation, said the civic and power authorities should arrange an alternative supply for water infrastructure to prevent such disruptions from affecting a large number of residents. The second fault was located deep beneath stone filling, which delayed excavation and repairs, the utility said. Rudrawar said, “The frequency of power cuts had reduced to some extent in recent days but the problem has persisted. Ratnadeep Kale, assistant engineer at MSEDCL, said, “An additional substation had been installed and activated to ease the pressure on existing infrastructure, helping address frequent outages to a large extent.

The outage continued through the night, leaving several households without electricity amid scorching heat. “The supply resumed around 5pm or 6pm but went off again within a short time. The prolonged disruption affected IT professionals working from home, who struggled to log in for work. Water supply was hit in several parts of Ravet, with some areas receiving water late at night while others received none. After testing and jointing the cable, supply was restored by 1pm. However, another fault occurred around 10pm at a different location on the same line, disrupting supply again. Another substation is planned to provide a long-term solution. Download the TOI App.
