Mumbai: The govt has approved the hiring of 220 forensic experts on a contractual basis for three years to clear the backlog of pending evidence examinations with the Cyber Forensic and TASI divisions at laboratories to ensure timely submission of forensic reports to courts. The GR issued on Tuesday stated that the recruits will include 130 scientific officers (Group B), who will be paid Rs 45,000 per month, and 90 scientific assistants (Group C), with a monthly pay of Rs 35,000. The GR stated that Anti-Corruption Bureau cases will be reviewed once every 15 days. For this, a high-level committee meeting on Aug 12 approved hiring people on a contractual/outsourcing basis.

The Cyber and TASI (Tape Authentication & Speaker Identification) divisions work under the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories, specialise in analysing digital and audio evidence and help in tech-driven crime. The govt will review the requirement after three years and decide whether the contractual arrangement needs to be extended. Recruitment will be undertaken on a target-based basis, and periodic reviews shall be conducted to assess whether the recruitment is resulting in effective disposal of pending cases. The hired candidates must be domiciled in Maharashtra and must possess knowledge of the Marathi language. The GR stated that it has become necessary to dispose of the pending cases expeditiously and enable analysis reports to be submitted to the courts within the stipulated time. Download the TOI App.
