Student found dead amid hostel inquiry in Satara: The wider industry impact

Kolhapur: A hostel inquiry, a call to parents and the fear of consequences are among the factors police are examining after a 19-year-old college student allegedly jumped from the terrace of her hostel in Satara on Wednesday evening.

Tragic Incident at College Hostel Leads to Student’s Death

A college student named Shrushti reportedly jumped from the terrace of her hostel and died on the spot, as confirmed by police. The incident occurred shortly before her parents arrived after being contacted by the college regarding an internal inquiry into remarks made against the hostel rector.

The inquiry was initiated after the rector raised concerns, leading to communication with the parents of both Shrushti and another student involved. While the other student’s parents arrived in Satara on Wednesday evening, Shrushti’s parents, who live farther away, were still en route when the tragedy occurred.

The other student expressed shock at the outcome, stating she never expected the situation to escalate to such a tragic end. College principal S T Salunkhe acknowledged that Shrushti appeared distressed, having joined the hostel only two months prior. Salunkhe noted that the college provides counseling services for students in need of support.

Tragic Incident at Yashwantrao Chavan Science College

Shrushti Bhanudas Birmane, a 19-year-old second-year food technology student at Yashwantrao Chavan Science College, tragically died after falling from the terrace of the three-storey girls’ hostel on campus. The incident occurred recently, and she was found lying in a pool of blood. Emergency assistance arrived, but she succumbed to her injuries before help could reach her. Birmane hailed from a village near Mahabaleshwar in Satara.

He said the college has decided to install safety nets around the hostel building. “Any action against individuals connected to the incident will be decided only after the police complete their investigation,” he added.
