A 19-year-old man was found murdered near a public garden in Vashi
NAVI MUMBAI: A 19-year-old boy was murdered and his body was dumped on the pavement near a public garden along Mini Seashore Road in Sector 10A, Vashi, early on Saturday morning. Shashikant Chandekar, senior inspector of Vashi police station, said, “The murder victim was identified as Sujan Kumar Mahato, a resident of Sector 19, Koparkhairane. The pedestrian alerted Vashi police station, and our police team reached the spot and took the teenager to NMMC Hospital in Vashi, where he was declared brought dead due to severe blood loss from grievous injuries to his head and wrist after being assaulted with some sharp lethal weapon.
The Vashi police have registered a murder case against unidentified accused. A passing pedestrian spotted him lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the pavement around 4am. The victim Mahato hails from Bihar and resided with his father, who is an auto-rickshaw driver, his mother and two minor siblings. He worked at a roadside Chinese food stall in Koparkhairane and used to drive his father’s auto-rickshaw during the night.”
His father’s auto-rickshaw was not found at the crime scene. Hence, it is suspected that after fatally assaulting Mahato, the assailant took away the auto-rickshaw, which is being traced by scanning CCTV footage along the route from Koparkhairane to Vashi. After his body was found early on Saturday morning, his family was informed.
