An officer from Wakad police said, “Complainant said his sister was mentally and physically harassed by her husband and in-laws, who pressured her to demand a share in her parental property. The woman’s husband and brother-in-law had been arrested in a murder case before her marriage which they did not allegedly disclose to their family while arranging the marriage, according to the complainant. Wakad police arrested her husband and in-laws on the charge of abetment to suicide after the woman’s brother lodged a complaint. She could not bear the harassment and hanged herself from the ceiling fan with her sari. They got married while he was out on bail.
However, the harassment over the property allegedly continued,” the officer said. “After the marriage, they used to pressure the woman to demand her share in the parental property. When she gave up her rights in the property, they started beating her. The complainant had tried to pacify the woman’s husband and in-laws by assisting him financially in his business and helping him in buying a plot.
