4-yr-old boy found murdered, kin held
Police have arrested an 18-year-old relative in connection with the killing. During inquiries at Parapathi, police learnt that Mani, 18, son of Krishnan and a relative of Murugan, was seen carrying a sack during the night. The deceased was identified as Mohan , the eldest of three children of Murugan, a daily wage labourer, and Nachammal. Mohan went missing in the evening while his father was away at work and his mother had gone to graze goats. When Nachammal returned around 6pm, she found her two daughters at home, but not Mohan. Despite a long search by family members and relatives, he could not be traced. Murugan lodged a complaint with Koodakovil police. Following instructions from Madurai district superintendent of police N Devanathan, a special team was formed to trace the child. Police picked up Mani from his house for questioning. Though he initially denied involvement, police claimed he admitted later to killing the boy and disposing of the body in a quarry pit about a kilometre away from the village.
Madurai: A four-year-old boy, who went missing on Saturday while playing near his house in Parapathi village near Tirumangalam, was found murdered in a quarry pit on Sunday.
Police said the suspect cited a family dispute to target the child to take revenge on his relatives. Based on information provided by him, police recovered Mohan’s throat-slit body from a sack at the quarry. Madurai SP and Tirumangalam DSP Emayavaramban visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. The body was sent to Government Rajaji Hospital for postmortem examination.
