Death sentence on preacher for sexual assault on minor girls referred to HC
Three other girls from the same extended family told their mothers that Abraham had also sexually assaulted them from the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 to 2022. In 2022, police registered a case for offences under Pocso Act and arrested Abraham. In August, the special court for exclusive trial of cases under Pocso Act in Tirunelveli convicted Abraham and imposed the death sentence on him. Since the death sentence was imposed by the trial court, the same was referred to HC for confirmation.
Madurai : The death sentence imposed on a preacher for sexually assaulting four minor girls in Tirunelveli was referred to Madras high court for confirmation on Thursday.
The case of the prosecution is that Abraham, 47, a preacher, sexually assaulted the girls at his church, during music classes and at deserted places in their neighbourhood. The abuse came to light in 2022 after an eight-year-old girl complained of pain in her private parts. A division bench of Justice M Nirmal Kumar and Justice N Gunasekaran posted the referred trial case for hearing on October 30.
