The case pertains to the FIR registered by Ambalamedu Police on a petition filed by MM Aliyar, proprietor of Malabar Timber Industries, Karimugal, who had alleged fraud in the sale of timber from the illegally felled trees in 2021. The allegation is that they cheated Aliyar of Rs 1.4 crore and the FIR was registered on July 13, 2021. In July, HC dismissed the discharge petitions filed by Josekutty and Anto.

Kochi: Chottanikkara JFCM court, which was hearing the cheating case linked to the controversial tree felling at Muttil in Wayanad in 2020-21 on Monday, posted the case to Sept 11. Earlier, the JFCM court had dismissed their petition seeking a stay on further proceedings in the case on Aug 31.

Sources said the trio had again moved HC seeking a stay on court proceedings. The JFCM court then directed that if any such stay order was issued, then it needs to be produced. HC too had dismissed Roji’s petition, seeking a stay of the ongoing trial in the cheating case at JFCM court.

Earlier, it had posted the case to Monday for the framing of charges against the accused. However, the accused Roji, Josekutty and Anto Augustine skipped court yet again on Monday with their counsel submitting in court that the matter related to the case is pending before the high court.
