Kochi : Perumbavoor Police on Monday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly murdering a migrant labourer who was found dead at a plywood factory at Old Muvattupuzha Road in Perumbavoor on Sunday.

The arrested person is Mohammed Sahil, 23, of Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Sahil used to work together with the deceased Muhammed Jahid, 21, who also hails from Muzaffarpur.

They obtained CCTV footage from the crime scene which led them to Sahil, according to the police. The man was then found lying between a set of plywood panels and a wall with injuries on his forehead, said police. Police said a detailed investigation, including whether there are more accused involved, will be conducted soon.

Police had taken Sahil into custody soon after Jahid was found dead. He allegedly attacked Jahid with a heavy object, leading to his death. The duo had nursed some personal grudge against each other, and the police have received information that they were involved in a verbal altercation recently. He was rushed to Perumbavoor taluk hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Police said Jahid was last seen by his friends early on Sunday after a night shift. They had gone looking for him as he did not turn up for work on Sunday evening. An autopsy was held on Monday.
