Four children, including three girls and a boy, lost their lives in a road accident near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district onSunday afternoon
Three of the victims, all aged below 12, were girls, including two sisters. The children had accompanied a relative, Anjammal, 60, who was grazing goats in the area and was sitting by the roadside when the tragedy struck. Van driver Saravana Kumar, 38, had fled immediately after the collision, but Vadamadurai police nabbed him and seized the milk van soon.
The speeding milk van lost control and crashed directly into the children who were playing by the side of the road, according to police. The incident occurred near Kanavai Medu area near Vadamadurai. All four sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, while Anjammal collapsed in shock and suffered injuries. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. They were sent to Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Madurai: A drunk driver crashed his milk van into four children playing by the roadside killing all of them near Vadamadurai in Dindigul district on Sunday afternoon.
Police also indicated that there was no evidence to suggest that the vehicle had lost control before striking them.
Police said the driver was found to have been under the influence of alcohol. He said he was unaware that children were playing there. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.
