Kochi: Ernakulam Police investigating the assault and robbery of a 28-year-old man in Aluva said they have received crucial information regarding the attackers.
The attackers first hurled a stone at Joju, inflicting a head injury, according to the FIR. He suffered a fracture to his right wrist and a wound on his chin in the attack, police said. They restrained him when he tried to run away and tied him up with ropes. The men allegedly kicked him and repeatedly hit his ribcage with a granite stone, causing three fractures on the right side. They then kicked him and pushed him into a nearby canal.
The attackers allegedly robbed him of a gold chain and Rs 1,000 from his bag.
Two people robbed him near Aluva railway station, according to the complainant. The victim, Jofin Joju of Kodanad, suffered multiple fractures to his ribs and hands in the attack in the early hours of Sunday. The victim has been undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital.
Aluva Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
CCTV footage from the area has been examined, police said. Persons with a criminal history and involved in similar robberies are being tracked, police added.
