Woman sets 2 sons, self afire, all die
Police said Kalipandi was addicted to alcohol and frequently quarreled with his wife. Police said Mariammal allegedly locked the house from inside, poured kerosene on herself and the children, and set them on fire. The incident occurred after Mariammal took her children to a temple festival at Vadakkuchathiram. She also participated in a kummi dance with other women there. Kalipandi arrived at the temple under the influence of alcohol and created a ruckus with her. An upset Mariammal returned home with the children. Hearing their cries, neighbours rushed to the house, broke open a portion of the roof and extinguished the flames. Mariammal died at the spot, while her two sons, who sustained severe burns, were initially taken to Tenkasi Govt Hospital, and later shifted to Palayamkottai GH for advanced treatment. Bodies were sent to the govt hospital for postmortem examination. Sivagiri police registered a case and are investigating the incident.
However, both children succumbed to their injuries one after another on Tuesday.
Madurai: A 28-year-old woman and her two young sons died after she allegedly set herself and the children on fire following a family dispute near Sivagiri in Tenkasi district on Monday.
