Muzaffarnagar : More than 250 people with criminal backgrounds reached four police stations in Muzaffarnagar city on Thursday morning to swear an oath to abstain from crime. These people with criminal backgrounds were made to fill out updated dossiers detailing their current residential addresses, occupations and active gang affiliations. All updated personal records and profile details are being cross-verified in real time using the police force’s YAKSH mobile application to maintain an active database for field officers.
Officials said the drive will remain active until every identified offender living in the city zone reports to local police stations and takes the pledge. SP (City) Amrit Jain said, “The initiative is designed to deter repeat offenders and encourage them to stay away from criminal activities by combining direct ground-level surveillance with targeted, intelligence-led night policing to keep public safety intact throughout the winter season. The police action was part of Operation Chakravaat (cyclone) aimed at preventing thefts, robberies and other offences using the cover of cold and foggy winter nights. The campaign, rolled out under the direction of SSP Suraj Rai, explicitly targets history-sheeters, repeat offenders and gang members to prevent thefts, robberies, dacoities, snatchings and illegal cow slaughter during periods when low visibility usually aids criminal activity. To ensure strict compliance and continuous monitoring during the winter months, police are enforcing a series of rigorous, data-driven surveillance measures. Police are systematically analysing emergency response system data for theft and snatching incidents over the past four to five years to identify high-risk crime hotspots, specific locations and peak timeframes. The insights gathered from this historical crime mapping will directly dictate police deployment and night patrolling routes, ensuring a heightened force presence in vulnerable areas during foggy winter conditions.
