Agra: An Aligarh court sentenced a 55-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine for raping his granddaughter in 2025. The Pocso court relied on the Class 6 student’s testimony to nail her grandfather.
On the evening of Dec 3, the survivor, who was 11 years and 11 months old at that time, was alone at home in Aligarh district with her two younger sisters.
During the trial, the survivor said the accused entered the room, forcibly removed her clothes and assaulted her. Next day, she told her aunt who took her to the local police station to file a complaint. Medical tests confirmed rape while forensic lab report indicated the presence of “semen on the convict’s undergarments”. Additional sessions judge (Pocso) Harendra Kumar Ojha convicted the accused under BNS 65 (2) (rape) and 5 (m)/6 of Pocso Act, and ordered that the fine amount be provided to the girl as “compensation”.
The convict was staying at the girl’s house for around two months. Pronouncing the verdict Wednesday, the court stressed on the physical and psychological impact on child sexual abuse survivors and need for strict punishment to deter such heinous crimes in society.
