Varanasi: A murder accused was arrested after suffering bullet injury in leg during exchange of fire with Chiraiyyakot police in Mau district early morning on Thursday.
He was on police radar after he allegedly killed one Aneesh Kumar over a wedding-related dispute near Kajha on Sept 9. He also carried a cash reward of Rs 25,000 on his head. CO Mohammadabad Gohna Jitendra Singh said on getting inputs regarding movement of criminals, the Chiraiyyakot police and SWAT team cordoned off Asalpur culvert and tried to stop Neeraj Kumar alias Tiger (27) of Ghazipur district.

When police tried to stop Neeraj, he opened fire and tried to escape, said Singh adding, in retaliatory firing by the police, he suffered bullet injury in the leg and was caught. After seizing a country-made pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle, police rushed him to hospital. Download the TOI App.
