Kanpur: A 28-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death after visiting a woman at her house in Gambhirpur village under Saadh police station limits in Kanpur early Sunday.
Police sent the body for postmortem examination and launched an investigation.
Police said the accused had fled after locking their house and would be arrested soon. The body was later taken to Saadh police station, where family members staged a protest and demanded action against the accused.
They claimed that the woman called the victim around 2 am and asked him to come over.
Police said the victim was allegedly in a relationship with a woman whose husband lived in the same village. The woman’s husband and his relatives caught the two together and assaulted the victim with sticks, according to the family. His family alleged that he returned home in his autorickshaw late Saturday and fell asleep outside the house. After some time, the woman’s father-in-law allegedly went to the victim’s house and informed the family that he was lying injured at their home. The family rushed the victim to a hospital in Naubasta, where doctors declared him dead.
