Free ride for women in UPSRTC buses on rakshabandhan
Corporation has directed that the maximum possible number of buses be run during the six-day period from Aug 26 to 31. Lucknow: Women in Lucknow have begun using the free bus travel facility announced by Yogi govt on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan , prompting Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) to scale up operations across the state.
Services have been increased based on passenger demand, with additional buses being deployed on routes to Lucknow, Kanpur and other major destinations as required, according to officials. All buses have been instructed to pick up passengers only from designated stops, while intensified route checks are also underway to ensure compliance and smooth operations. UPSRTC has also ensured continuous deployment of supervisors at bus stations, with a focus on passenger convenience and crowd management during the festival rush. All contracted buses of Corporation have been pressed into service for the period.
Drivers and conductors completing 1,800 kilometres between Aug 26 and 31 will receive Rs 1,200. Those exceeding the target will get an additional 55 paise per kilometre. To encourage higher deployment, a special incentive scheme has been introduced for operating staff.
