Jhansi : A 27-year-old woman from Karnataka was arrested in Prayagraj on Wednesday for allegedly blackmailing Jhansi RPF commandant Jitendra Kumar Sharma using AI-generated morphed photographs and demanding Rs 15 lakh.
The accused, Marina Lajras alias Marina Jessy, was arrested after Sharma’s wife lodged a complaint at the Nawabad police station on Aug 2, according to SP City Preeti Singh. She allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh from Sharma, who paid her Rs 40,000 on various dates. Police said the accused was traced with the assistance of the Jhansi Surveillance Cell and was arrested on Sept 9.
The accused had edited objectionable photographs of the complainant and her family members and threatened to make them public, according to the complaint. However, she later visited the complainant’s house, abused the family and threatened to kill them and implicate them in a false case. She was produced before a court in Jhansi on Thursday and remanded to judicial custody.
