Singh said a police team was immediately sent and Irfan was apprehended. The man has been arrested after investigation, said Singh. She met Irfan on Instagram about four years ago, according to the complainant. The two married according to Thai customs about one-and-a-half years ago, she alleged. The woman said that a few days ago she came to know that Irfan was already married. When she demanded her money back, Irfan allegedly said that he would accept her as his wife only if she moved to India and converted her religion and then only he would discuss repayment of the money, she said. Police said that Irfan could not provide a satisfactory response when questioned over the complaint.
In a complaint submitted to ADCP East Shiva Singh, the woman alleged that Irfan, a resident of Latouche Road, pressured her to move permanently to India and convert her religion when she sought repayment. As the matter falls under Anwarganj police station, the case was forwarded there and the investigation was handed over to ACP Anwarganj. He visited Thailand frequently and proposed marriage without disclosing that he was already married. Download the TOI App.
