Kanpur: A businessman was allegedly cheated of Rs 19.52 lakh by cyber fraudsters who promised hefty returns on share trading through a Telegram group in the Kalyanpur police station area.
Believing their claims, Kashyap transferred Rs 19,52,361 in multiple instalments from bank accounts held by him and his wife.
The victim, Santosh Kumar Kashyap, a resident of Keshavpuram Awas Vikas, was lured into joining a Telegram group, according to police. Police registered an FIR based on his complaint. He alleged that its members claimed to be share-trading operators and persuaded him to invest in the stock market. To gain his trust, they allegedly shared screenshots showing substantial profits. However, when he tried to withdraw the money, the fraudsters allegedly pressured him to invest more. When he refused, they blocked him from the group.
Kalyanpur station house officer Keshav Tiwari said the matter was under investigation.
