Postal director Ansuiya Prasad said a three-member team had been formed to investigate

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kanpur: The postal department on Friday suspended sub-postmaster Rakesh Mishra and clerk Shivam Sachan and constituted a three-member inquiry team to probe the alleged misappropriation of more than Rs 8 lakh from a customer at the Ghatampur post office.

Akash said that after his father’s death in 2012, Pandey told the family that the account would be transferred to his mother’s name. Following her death in 2024, he approached Pandey to withdraw the deposits, but the latter allegedly kept delaying the payment.

Prasad said there had also been reports of settlement talks between Chaurasiya and Pandey on Nov 1, during which bank cheques were allegedly issued.

Postal director Ansuiya Prasad said a three-member team had been formed to investigate the matter, including the issuance of the passbook and the use of the post office seal affixed to it. The inquiry will determine the exact amount that may have been misappropriated, she said.
