Kanpur: Four goat traders were allegedly robbed of Rs 4.31 lakh at gunpoint after a group of assailants waylaid their car and attacked them with sticks on the Kanpur-Aligarh highway in Shivrajpur on Thursday morning.

Shahid and Adil, both from Chaubepur, were traveling with two companions in a hired Eeco car en route to Kannauj for a goat purchase. The group was suddenly approached from behind by an XUV vehicle while navigating between the Dubiyana and Ganga Road underpasses on the Shivrajpur bypass. Details surrounding the incident remain under investigation as authorities seek to understand the circumstances that led to the collision.

The attackers allegedly brandished a country-made pistol and robbed the traders of Rs 4.31 lakh. Shivrajpur police inspected the scene and launched efforts to identify the assailants. The assailants overtook their vehicle, parked the XUV in front of it and blocked its path, according to the traders. Station house officer Amit Singh said police were investigating the case.
