Lucknow: During a surprise inspection at 40 blood banks across 10 districts, the Food Safety and Drug Administration found serious irregularities in seven centres and halted activities. Show-cause notices have been served on others for certain shortcomings.
UPFSDA commissioner Roshan Jacob said along with halting blood and blood component activities at the seven centres where irregularities were found, action is being taken regarding shortcomings found at the other inspected centres. At one centre, it was found that storing FFP in a platelet agitator was being done contrary to the prescribed procedure, fees higher than the prescribed price were being charged, and staff were absent.
