Lucknow: Two people, including the mother of a sub-inspector, were killed after a car carrying four occupants crashed near Chakouli underpass in Kakori on Sunday morning, police said.
The accident occurred around 9am when the car, bearing registration number UP20 BW 2666, was travelling from Bulandshahr towards Mohanlalganj. Doctors declared Savitri Devi (48), the mother of sub-inspector Sonu Nigam , and Sher Singh (55), Nigam’s uncle, dead during treatment, said Kakori station house officer Nawab Ahmed. Nigam (28), posted at Nahtaur police station in Bijnor district, and another occupant, identified as Sandeep Bhati (28), suffered minor injuries and are undergoing treatment, SHO said. A suitcase, clothes, mobile phones and about ₹3.5 lakh in cash were recovered from inside the car, police said. In a separate incident, a 30-year-old scooter rider died after a collision with a car on Nishatganj flyover in Mahanagar late Saturday night, police said. The crash took place around 12.30am in front of a police outpost on the flyover. Singh sustained critical injuries and was taken to KGMU Trauma Centre in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said the vehicle went out of control and hit near the underpass. Police said the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and legal formalities were initiated. Police said the scooter rider, identified as Satyaman Singh, was travelling towards Nishatganj from Gol Market side when his scooter, allegedly being driven on the wrong side, collided head-on with a Tata Altroz approaching from the opposite direction. Police said the car involved bore a registration number.
All four occupants were taken to a hospital with the help of police personnel. The damaged vehicle was being removed from the road, and traffic movement in the area remained normal, officials added. Police identified him as the son of Ram Bahadur Singh and a resident of Tikri village in Amethi district, after verification by his cousin. The body was kept in KGMU mortuary and post-mortem proceedings were underway.
