Man held with Rs 1.4cr demonetised currency in Hapur: The wider industry impact

Bulandshahr: A 44-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly recovered demonetised currency notes worth Rs 1.44 crore from his possession during a checking drive in Hapur’s Dehat police station area on Wednesday night. Police suspect the man was part of a racket that collected old currency notes from people by promising to exchange them for new currency.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under BNS sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 317(2) (dishonestly receiving or retaining stolen property) and section 5/7 of the Specified Bank Notes Act 2017.

Efforts are underway to trace the other alleged members of the racket, police said.
