Google said the feature is designed to help people organise their shopping, keep track of savings and make purchases with greater confidence, particularly during the holiday shopping season. Google has started rolling out its Universal Cart in the US, allowing shoppers to save products from different retailers, track price changes and find discounts in one place. The feature is available across Google Search and the Gemini app, giving users a single shopping cart they can access across both platforms. It also supports checkout through Google Pay at participating stores or lets shoppers move items to a retailer’s website to complete their purchase.
The new feature can also identify relevant promotional codes and help users choose payment methods based on their card benefits. Built on Google Wallet, Universal Cart can take into account the perks associated with a user’s credit cards and help them select a suitable payment option. It also displays relevant promo codes within the cart, helping shoppers identify potential savings before checking out.
Google said the simplified checkout experience is available with merchants including Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart and Wayfair, as well as many Shopify merchants. The retailer remains the seller of record, meaning customers receive purchase confirmations and customer support directly from the merchant.
