Vijayendra targets Cong govt over guarantees, drought during padayatra

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Sindhanur (Raichur): The BJP ’s ‘Ballari Chalo’ padayatra entered its fourth day on Friday, with state president BY Vijayendra leading a 26-km march from Sindhanur to Karatagi in Koppal district. The BJP intensified its attack on the Congress govt over welfare delivery, pensions and drought management.

Former minister Govind Karjol accused the govt of failing to respond adequately to drought conditions and demanded a farm loan waiver and Rs 100 crore assistance for every district.

Speaking to reporters, Vijayendra alleged that the Congress govt was trapped in the “illusion” of its guarantee schemes and had drifted away from ground realities. Alleging delays in welfare fund releases, Vijayendra said farmers, labourers, senior citizens and persons with disabilities were being neglected. He claimed old-age pensions, disability allowances and other social security benefits had not reached beneficiaries for months. He also alleged discrimination in identifying drought-hit areas.
