12,000 seats still vacant, GU opens fresh admission round: The wider industry impact

Ahmedabad: Around 12,000 undergraduate and postgraduate seats remain vacant across Gujarat University colleges and departments for 2026-27 academic year, prompting the university to open another admission round under the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS). Several prominent colleges, including MG Science College, LD Arts College, HA College of Commerce, Navgujarat College and HK Arts College, have reported unfilled seats. BK School of Professional and Management Studies and BK Institute of Management have also reported vacancies, along with PG Diploma in Banking and Insurance programme.

The vacancies are spread across govt, grant-in-aid and other affiliated institutions, covering arts, science, commerce and law. Other institutions with vacancies include CC Sheth College of Commerce, CU Shah Commerce College, CU Shah Arts College, GB Shah Commerce College, GLS University and Government Arts College, Gandhinagar. Several Gujarat University departments have seats available in subjects such as biochemistry, forensic sciences, botany, bioinformatics, computer science, earth sciences and environmental studies.

Vacant Seat Counselling Process Now Open

The latest round of Vacant Based Seat Counselling (VBSC) commenced on Monday and will continue until September 11. During this period, eligible students can review available seats and directly contact the relevant college, institution, or university department to secure their placement.
