New Delhi: Northern Railway’s Delhi division will operate hundreds of special trains during the upcoming festive season to cater to the rush of passengers travelling to and from the capital.
Most of the services will be operated between Oct 1 and Nov 30, according to a senior Northern Railway official. A special train will run daily between Anand Vihar and Patliputra from Oct 1 to Nov 29. From New Delhi, special trains will run daily to Saharanpur till Nov 28. Special services will also operate between New Delhi and Howrah from Oct 2 to Nov 27 and between New Delhi and Danapur from Oct 2 to Nov 20. Special trains will depart from Old Delhi for Sitamarhi and Varanasi between Oct 15 and Nov 19. New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Festival Special will make four trips in each direction to meet the festive rush from Oct 8 to 12. The additional services will cater to the festive rush that starts weeks before Dussehra (Oct 20) and continues well past mid-Nov. It will cover 1,531 km in around 30 hours and stop at several stations, including Bandel, Barddhaman, Durgapur, Asansol, Chittaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha, Mokama, Patna Junction, Danapur, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Prayagraj and Kanpur Central.

Railway officials said tickets for these trains can be booked through IRCTC website. Security arrangements will be stepped up at major railway stations in Delhi during the operation of these special trains, with additional deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Govt Railway Police (GRP) personnel, an official said. The special trains will originate from or terminate at Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin. They will connect Delhi with several destinations, including cities in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir. From Anand Vihar, special services will take passengers to Jhanjharpur, Muzaffarpur, Lal Kuan, Patliputra and Ayodhya Cantt. Another special service will connect Anand Vihar with Ayodhya Cantt during the same period. A Puja special train between New Delhi and Howrah will operate via Patna Junction. Security staff will be positioned at entry and exit points, platforms, waiting areas and other crowded locations to manage the passenger rush. Additional personnel will keep a watch on passenger movement and luggage at the stations. CCTV cameras will be monitored closely, while teams will remain alert to unattended baggage and suspicious activity.
