Chitradurga : Challakere police have arrested two women from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 6.3 lakh from a woman travelling on a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus. Police recovered 55 grams of gold jewellery in connection with cases registered in Challakere and Molakalmuru.

The arrested women have been identified as Shanthi and Neelaveni, residents of Kuppam taluk in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district.

Lakshmi , a resident of Sindhanur in Raichur district, was travelling to Challakere on July 6 to attend a relative’s engagement ceremony, according to police. During the journey, the accused allegedly diverted her attention and stole a 35-gram gold chain studded with stones, a pendant and a pair of gold ball-shaped earrings weighing three grams from her bag. Police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 4.3 lakh, weighing 38 grams, in connection with the Challakere case and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh, weighing 17 grams, in connection with a case registered at Molakalmuru police station.

Acting on information and technical evidence, a police team led by inspector Kumar K, under the guidance of Challakere deputy superintendent of police Satyanarayana Rao, investigated the case and apprehended the accused. PSI J Shivraj and police personnel Thimmapppa, Manjunath, Shivakumar, Venkatesh K, Gangamma, Parashuram, Annappa Nayak, Shruthi KT, Giriyamma Hosanamati, Shobha and Bhagyamma participated in the operation.
