Madurai : The district administration is considering declaring a two-day local holiday for the upcoming consecration ceremony of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Minister for energy resources C T R Nirmal Kumar said on Saturday.
Authorities will provide footwear stands, mobile phone deposit counters, mobile toilets, drinking water points and annadhanam at 11 locations.
Addressing reporters after a review meeting, Nirmal Kumar said an announcement on the holiday would be made soon. He said officials from various departments had discussed arrangements for the consecration. “A total of 58 parking locations have been identified and arranged for devotees visiting the temple during the ceremony,” he added.
Surveillance cameras, including Facial Recognition System (FRS) cameras, are being installed in and around the temple precincts. Officials have also been instructed to print route maps on entry passes and install signboards at major junctions to guide visitors to designated enclosures. Dedicated parking hubs will be set up for vehicles arriving from Tiruchi, Dindigul, Sivaganga and other districts, with bus shuttles and auto services to ferry devotees to the temple. Commercial shops around the temple will remain closed on the day of the ceremony to prevent congestion. LED screens will be installed for live telecast of the rituals. Medical camps, ambulances and mobile health squads will be kept on alert, while shade pandals and electrical safety audits will also be arranged.
