The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Bulandshahr : A Class 10 student allegedly died by suicide at her home in a village in Amroha district on Thursday morning after being harassed by local youths for nearly three months. The main accused was arrested on Friday, while his brother, who has also been named in the FIR, remains at large.

Police said the 15-year-old girl’s mother found her body around 9am after returning from the fields. The girl’s parents lodged a complaint at Gajraula police station alleging that Mohd Naeem, 21, and his brother Nasir, both residents of the same village, had been harassing their daughter during her commute to school. Bhadauria said the postmortem report confirmed death by suicide and an FIR was registered against Naeem and Nasir under sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult) of BNS.

“Naeem was arrested and sent to jail on Friday while efforts are underway to trace Nasir,” he said. Police said the allegation was also being examined as part of the investigation. Her father was away in Muzaffarnagar for work at the time. Police officers, including additional SP Akhilesh Bhadauria and circle officer Pankaj Tyagi, reached the village and sent the body for postmortem. Naeem allegedly passed lewd remarks and repeatedly behaved inappropriately with her.

The family also alleged that they had approached police earlier but timely action was not taken against the accused. The family told police that the girl had initially not disclosed the matter fearing social embarrassment and narrated her ordeal only after another alleged incident on Tuesday. Relatives informed police and confronted the two brothers on Wednesday evening, asking them to stop harassing her, leading to an argument between the two parties, the family alleged.
