Lucknow: The High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Allahabad, has urged the Oudh Bar Association of the Lucknow bench to initiate appropriate steps to restrain Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal from performing judicial duties, alleging that two orders passed by him on Oct 28 and 29 were detrimental to the interests and reputation of advocates.
In his Oct 28 order, Justice Deshwal directed the identification of advocates allegedly involved in raising slogans and disrupting court proceedings. In his Oct 29 order, Justice Deshwal observed that certain persons claiming to be advocates had prevented other lawyers from entering his courtroom without justification. The letter, signed by HCBA president CP Upadhyay and general secretary Santosh Kumar Mishra, sought appropriate action to restrain the judge from judicial work while protecting advocates’ dignity.
Describing their conduct as ‘absolutely contemptuous’, he observed that disciplinary proceedings through the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and contempt proceedings could be initiated against them. He requested the newly elected HCBA leadership to intervene and safeguard the dignity of the court. The judge also observed that most advocates practising at the Allahabad High Court were sincere and well-behaved.
