Bijnor: A 52-year-old man wanted in multiple criminal cases was arrested in Bijnor’s Afzalgarh after nearly 26 years on the run, during which he allegedly lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for about 10 years using a fake identity, police said on Sunday.
Police said he travelled to Saudi Arabia on the fake passport, stayed in Riyadh for about 10 years and spent the next 16 years in hiding after returning to India. Police said Islamuddin faced earlier cases under Arms Act and IPC section 394, voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. Islamuddin, a resident of Mohalla Miyaji Mokha in Afzalgarh and listed as a history-sheeter in police records, allegedly obtained an Aadhaar card and passport in the name of Mohammad Islam Khan using an address in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district. A fresh case was registered under BNS sections related to cheating, forgery and use of forged documents, while police were also probing how he obtained the false identity papers and travelled abroad while evading law enforcement.
