Lucknow : Mental strength should not be viewed as the absence of difficulties but as the ability to understand and manage emotions, adapt to challenging situations, learn from setbacks and seek support when necessary, said Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Western University, Canada, Amresh Shrivastava. He was speaking at a special session on “Mental Strength and Resilience in Students” organised by Counselling and Guidance Cell of University of Lucknow, in collaboration with Happy Thinking Laboratory, under the patronage of vice-chancellor Jai Prakash Saini, on Friday. Director of Counselling and Guidance Cell Manini Srivastava said the university was working towards creating a campus environment where students feel supported and empowered to deal with challenges.
Shrivastava also interacted with students and spoke about mental wellbeing, resilience and healthy ways of coping with academic and personal challenges. He further stressed the importance of recognising signs of emotional distress at an early stage and seeking timely professional help. Director, Happy Thinking Laboratory, Archana Shukla, emphasised that resilience can be developed through self-awareness, positive coping mechanisms and supportive relationships.
