She played professionally in Iceland with UMF Afturelding/Fram in 2017. In 2019, she launched Brittany Lynne Fitness, an online training platform she built without Patrick’s name in the branding. Patrick joined the ownership group in 2022, becoming the first active NFL player to hold equity in an NWSL team. That conviction produced the CPKC Stadium, which opened in 2024 as the first purpose-built venue in history dedicated exclusively to a professional women’s sports team. By 2026, Forbes valued the Kansas City Current at $325 million, making it the second-most valuable franchise in the entire NWSL, trailing only Angel City FC. When Sports Illustrated named Brittany its 2026 Swimsuit Digital Cover Star in February, the backlash arrived within hours.

Because it doesn’t fit the narrative people had already decided on, that part of her story rarely gets told. Because of proximity to an NFL quarterback, that number did not happen. Because of real investment, real infrastructure, and real vision, it happened.

“These women deserve to feel important and have their own facility so that they can perform at their best,” she told Sports Illustrated. The short answer is that the “NFL wife” label is stubborn, and the internet rewards outrage over accuracy. “I think being the significant other to an NFL player is an incredibly hard role, and we take on a lot of important stuff behind the scenes that people don’t get to see,” she said in her SI interview.

That business was running before she became one of the most recognizable faces in the NFL’s social universe. But it was Brittany who pushed for it first. She understood the sport from the inside. She knew what women’s athletes were missing. It sold out every single home match that season. Critics questioned why she got the cover at all, with some arguing she was neither an athlete nor a model. The debate spread fast. What got buried in that noise was her actual background: former professional soccer player, certified personal trainer, NWSL co-owner, stadium builder.

Before the Chiefs dynasty, before the fame and the scrutiny, Brittany Mahomes was a collegiate soccer player at UT Tyler, where she earned a degree in kinesiology.
