GTA 6 release date: Which platforms will get the game first

GTA 6 may arrive on PC in early 2027. Rockstar Games is reportedly planning to launch the PC version of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI within the first three months of 2027, a recent report claimed citing four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans. The reported timeline suggests that PC players may not have to wait as long as they did for Grand Theft Auto V, which arrived on PC more than a year after its console debut. However, Rockstar has not officially confirmed the PC release date of GTA 6. For console players, the company has confirmed that the game will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. Rockstar parent Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has also noted that a PC version of GTA 6 is inevitable, and now it is expected to come soon after console launches. According to a GamesBeat report, Rockstar Games is targeting a first-quarter 2027 PC release for GTA 6. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment before the report was published. If the rumours about GTA 6’s PC version are accurate, it will be available sometime between January and March 2027, only a few months after the scheduled console release. Nonetheless, this release window isn’t set in stone, and Rockstar can still change its plans. The studio has previously delayed GTA 6 twice, moving it from its original 2025 release window to May 2026 and subsequently to November 19, 2026. According to Rockstar, GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The setting includes Vice City, a fictional location inspired by Miami, alongside other regions across the state. The reported PC launch window would shorten the gap between console and PC releases compared with the studio’s previous major instalment. Grand Theft Auto V launched on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2009, followed by the PC version in April 2015, making it 19 months since its initial PC release. By comparison, a first-quarter 2027 release for GTA 6 would mean a gap of roughly two to four months after its November 2026 console launch, depending on the final release date. A quicker PC release could help Rockstar reach a wider audience sooner. PC players also represent an important group for the franchise’s online role-playing community, which has grown around custom servers and user-generated content. Rockstar has shown interest in user-generated content and online role-playing by acquiring Cfx.re in August 2023. The development team is associated with FiveM, a modification framework that supports role-playing servers in the PC version of GTA 5. These communities allow players to create customised experiences beyond the main game’s campaign. A PC version of GTA 6 could support similar activities, although Rockstar has not confirmed the full scope of user-generated content tools for the upcoming game. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has also reportedly said in an interview with Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show that GTA 6 online will launch “next year.

It won’t be coming on any earlier-generation console at launch and hasn’t been announced for PC as of now. The game follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, who become entangled in a criminal conspiracy in the fictional state of Leonida after a robbery goes wrong. Rockstar has not officially announced a launch date for the game’s online mode, and the reported timing does not confirm whether it will arrive alongside the console version or later.
