Google has pushed out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 for Pixel phones, and for Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro owners, this is probably the last beta build their phones will ever see. The release landed on July 31 as build CP31.260623.010, still sitting on the July 2026 security patch, and it is almost entirely a bug-fixing exercise ahead of the September Feature Drop. QPR1 Beta 8 does not. It covers the full Pixel 6 series including the 6a, runs all the way up to the Pixel 10a, and supports the Pixel Tablet and the Android Emulator. So the 2021 flagships get one final look at what is coming before they settle into stable builds for good.
Because google has already opened the QPR2 Beta 1 track, and that one quietly drops the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, the timing matters.
Google attached 32 separate issue tracker IDs to it, which tells you how long users have been filing reports about the same thing. The headline fix is an audio framework buffer management problem that caused loud, corrupted static during media playback and notification interactions. Some Pixel owners say they have lived with it across three generations of hardware. The rest of the changelog is shorter but no less annoying to live with. Fingerprint authentication was failing to trigger at all when unlocking, which is the kind of bug that turns a phone into a paperweight for a few seconds every time you pick it up. An NFC service regression stopped affected tags from reading data or opening URLs. And the Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock, the entire point of buying that tablet, kept going offline or refusing to connect when attached. Enrolled devices get the OTA through the Android Beta Program.
