Chief minister DK Shivakumar interacts with beneficiaries of Gruha Lakshmi scheme at his home-office in Bengaluru
During an interaction with beneficiaries of Gruha Lakshmi scheme, he appealed to beneficiaries to bring Congress back to the helm in 2028, saying they should “repay” the party for financial assistance provided through the guarantees.
Shivakumar said the scheme had recorded 120 crore transactions so far, with a total expenditure of Rs 86,000 crore.
Responding jokingly to the woman’s request, Shivakumar said he had not invited beneficiaries to recommend Hebbalkar for the post. Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised them initially but later replicated them,” Shivakumar said. He said the govt has developed a new app to address glitches such as cases where the mobile number registered belonged to one person, but money was credited to another person’s bank account, and payments being made into accounts of deceased beneficiaries.
During the interaction, a woman recalled that former women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar had been accessible to beneficiaries and requested Shivakumar to bring her back to head the department. He went on to say he was currently handling the portfolio. He also recalled how Siddaramaiah used to speak about his childhood, when there was not even rice at home. “Nobody can stop these schemes.
If the appointment materialises, the department is expected to get a new minister before Dec 2, when the winter session begins in Belagavi.
Bengaluru: Chief minister DK Shivakumar Friday said a woman would be inducted into his council of ministers before the next assembly session and she would handle the women and child development portfolio. That led to Gruha Lakshmi and Shakti schemes,” he said. Shivakumar also shared the story behind the scheme. “I had prayed to goddess Chamundeshwari for all women in the state and after listening to a song by my relative Paramesh, I decided women should be empowered and made financially independent.
