Police also seized ₹7 lakh in cash, the contraband, and the car used for transportation. Acting on the directions of Tirunelveli city police commissioner Deshmukh Shekar Sanjay to intensify the crackdown on narcotics, a special team had been gathering intelligence on ganja suppliers and peddlers over the past 10 days. During the inspection, they intercepted a car and found 2kg of ganja and ₹7 lakh in cash inside the vehicle.

Further inquiry revealed that Tamilarasan was working as a warden at Perurani sub-jail, police said. Tirunelveli Town police registered a case and arrested both accused. The seized ganja, cash and vehicle were taken into custody.

Tirunelveli : Tirunelveli City Police arrested two men, including a prison warden from Thoothukudi district, for transporting 2kg of ganja in a car on Friday. Based on a tip-off, a police team led by inspector Subramanian conducted vehicle checks on Courtallam Road in Tirunelveli Town on Friday.

The occupants were identified as Tamilarasan , 31, of Vittilapuram and Naveen , 25, of Murappanadu in Thoothukudi district. Investigation revealed that the duo allegedly procured ganja in bulk and sold it in smaller packets.
