Meerut : A special SC/ST Act court directed police in Bareilly to lodge an FIR and asked the SHO to submit a compliance report within a week after allegations that a Dalit man — Anil Kumar — was thrashed with an iron rod inside a local police station, severely damaging his right hand.
The case dates back to July 11 when Kumar, a resident of Chandpur Bichpuri, alleged that a woman from the village abused him outside his home and filed a fake molestation complaint on Dial 112.
Meanwhile, the circle officer’s report found no negligence, malice or criminal intent by police personnel at the thana and stated that allegations against them were “unsubstantiated”. Police response vehicle personnel took him to Bithri Chainpur thana around 7pm. Now the court has asked for a compliance report. We’ll file it accordingly.”
Bareilly SSP, Anurag Arya, told TOI on Thursday: “We already held an inquiry.
Allowing an application by Kumar under BNSS 173 (4), the court on Wednesday said that the averments, backed by an affidavit and documents, prima facie disclosed “cognisable offence which required registration and proper investigation”. Petitions to the SSP and other local authorities, he said, led to no FIR or impartial probe. “So I approached the court,” he added.
Kumar underwent two surgeries and a blood transfusion at a Bareilly hospital.
